What is "Owasco"?
Owasco Area is one of the seven Areas in White Pine Council of Scouts Canada. "Owasco" is a First Nations word meaning "a floating bridge" or "outlet". Owasco Area is bordered by the City of Toronto to the west, the Town of Whitby to the east and Lake Ontario to the south. Owasco Area includes the communities of Ajax, Pickering, Greenwood, Claremont and Uxbridge, which is the northern-most community in Owasco Area.
There are approximately 20 volunteer-led Scout Groups which meet in neighbourhood schools and churches throughout the Area. If you don't have a Scout Group in your local neighbourhood, we would love to help you open a Group. Scouting is a community collaborative and Scout Groups thrive with support of neighbourhood families.
Owasco Area is led by the Area Service Team. The Area Service Team consists of volunteer Service Scouters for each youth program Section, as well as for more administrative needs, such as Training, Recognition, Finance, Registration, Popcorn Coordinator and Community Events. The Area Service Team is headed by the Area Commissioner and Area Youth Commissioner, both volunteers, and the Scouts Canada Area Support Manager. The Area Commissioner and Area Youth Commissioner are appointed by their respective Commissioner at the Council level.
